Maria Beckett, President and
CEO of Maricom Systems, founded the organization in June
1996 after resigning from her full-time place of employment.
Mrs. Beckett has an extensive background in the Information
Technology industry. She started her career as an
application programmer for MCI Telecommunications in 1983, a
position she was offered after completing an internship
during her final semester at Stockton State College in
Pomona, NJ. Since that time, Mrs. Beckett worked in several
technical positions in the insurance and manufacturing
industries.
Mrs. Beckett has over twenty years of Information Systems
experience with more than 15 years specializing in Database
Administration developing, implementing, and maintaining
DB2, Oracle and Microsoft SQL databases. Mrs. Beckett is an
IBM Certified Solutions Expert for DB2 and is also an IBM
certified instructor for DB2 related courses. She has taught
and authored a wide range of database curriculum for IBM,
CA-Platinum, Learning Tree International, Techknowledge, and
other education companies. Prior to forming Maricom Systems,
Mrs. Beckett was the manager of the Corporate Database
Administration group at McCormick & Co. in Hunt Valley, MD.
In addition to her role as President of Maricom, Mrs. Beckett
has served as a DBA for a number of Maricom customers.
Mrs. Beckett is a member of The Presidents’ RoundTable, a
Maryland-based organization of African-American CEOs and
presidents. She recently served on the Business Development
Advisory Committee to Maryland Governor Robert Ehrlich’s
Commission on Minority Business Reform and was named a 2003
recipient of the MD/DC Minority Supplier Diversity Council’s
Outstanding Woman of Color Award.
